Daughters for Earth

Daughters for Earth is a global philanthropic movement dedicated to supporting, celebrating, and mobilizing women to protect and restore our Earth. Climate change solutions can't be addressed without fully incorporating women's leadership and experiences. Their perspectives on how to achieve lasting transformation — at a multifaceted level that includes structural and relational change, and ultimately kinship and love with the natural world — are not only important, they are necessary.

Daughters for Earth envisions a world where environmental action grows from connection — not extraction. Where women's leadership is recognized as a proven foundation for systems that endure.

When Women Lead

No response to a global crisis is complete without women's leadership and wisdom.

From this understanding came the birth of Daughters for Earth. We set out to find women leaders dedicated to protecting the natural world, support them financially, trust their leadership, and measure their impact — not only on biodiversity, but on social, economic, and educational transformation.

The world has decades of evidence that women-led interventions transform societies. We simply turned that same lens toward the planetary crisis.

Why Women

As in all crises, women and children — who make up 70% of the world's most vulnerable — bear the greatest burden. They face increased violence, forced migration, poverty, and loss of education. That is the dominant picture: one that leads with the negative impact of planetary decline on women. But women are not passive victims. Across cultures and sectors, women sustain families, reinvest up to 90% of their income in their communities, and influence stronger environmental policies in business and government. When women lead, ripple effects follow. Around the world, women scientists, conservationists, Indigenous leaders, seed keepers, and activists are already protecting ecosystems, strengthening local economies, and restoring relationships with nature. Their work is anchored not only in environmental protection, but in social and economic wellbeing.

The Hummingbird Effect

Inspiration for action comes from a beautiful story of a little hummingbird — a story that mirrors what we regularly witness in women-led environmental action around the world. The Hummingbird Effect: when one person takes meaningful action, it not only makes a difference, it also inspires others. And together, those actions become transformational. Impact

Daughters for Earth is committed to building the evidence base for women-led solutions. This includes documenting not just numbers, but the positive environmental, economic, social, cultural, and spiritual impacts of an organization's efforts. Existing research at the intersection of gender and the planetary crisis often focuses on the disproportionate harm experienced by women and girls. While this reality is critical to acknowledge, it is not the full story. By conducting and amplifying this research, we aim to make women-led action visible, credible, and influential in shaping climate and nature agendas toward 2030 and beyond.
