The Hidden Economics of Remarkable Women (HERO)

Season 9 · Episode 1 · March 4, 2026

Season 9 of The Hidden Economics of Remarkable Women, all about the women on the front lines of the climate crisis, opens with Christiana Figueres. She served as the executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change. In 2015, Figueres led the process that secured the historic Paris agreement on climate change, in which 195 nations agreed to limit future global warming. Figueres now leads a nonprofit called Global Optimism, which she launched with her fellow Paris negotiator Tom Rivett-Carnac. They wrote a book together, The Future We Choose, and host a podcast with Paul Dickinson called Outrage + Optimism. Host Zainab Salbi talks with Figueres about the current state of the climate movement: where she thinks we should focus our energy at this difficult moment, and how she reflects on Paris a decade later. Guest: Christiana Figueres, founding partner of Global Optimism.
