The Hidden Economics of Remarkable Women (HERO)
Lion Queens
Season 9 · Episode 2 · March 11, 2026
When people discuss environmental solutions, they often focus on the impact on our lives — keeping parts of the planet inhabitable in the face of extreme temperatures, maintaining biodiversity, protecting our oceans. But there is another case to be made: investing in our planet makes sense economically. According to the International Monetary Fund, every dollar spent on conservation and other green projects may yield up to $7 within five years, through jobs created, food systems improved, and greenhouse gases reduced.
On this episode, host Zainab Salbi speaks with Jody Allen — philanthropist, businesswoman, conservationist, and owner of the Seattle Seahawks — who co-founded Daughters for Earth with Salbi. They discuss the interplay between philanthropy and conservation.
We also hear from two African wildlife conservationists: Shivani Bhalla, founder of Ewaso Lions in Kenya, and Moreangels Mbizah, founder of Wildlife Conservation Action in Zimbabwe. They share what community-led conservation looks like, and what works best to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
Guests: Jody Allen, founder of Daughters for Earth; Shivani Bhalla, founder of Ewaso Lions; Moreangels Mbizah, founder of Wildlife Conservation Action.
